Kings Cross is an area full of trendy cafés, strip clubs, adult bookstores and the famous Harry's Cafe De Wheels.

King's Cross has been known to most Australians for a long time, as the drug and red light capital of Australia. In recent years though this area has become more gentrified and has started to evolve into a richly vibrant part of the city.

The strip clubs, topless waitresses, adult bookshops and tacky nightclubs are still there, but small, trendy cafes have sprung up on the fringes of the Cross.

Restaurants like
the Gazebo Wine Garden, near the El Alamein Fountain, are attracting a different type of visitor to this area.

Kings Cross is also home to one of Sydney’s oldest areas, Woolloomooloo. Here, at the bottom of the hill, just minutes from Finger Wharf you will find Harry's Cafe De Wheels. This Sydney icon was established in 1945 and is open 18 hours a day. Harry’s Café De Wheels is a must try, especially after a night out.

A couple of interesting places to visit near Kings Cross include Elizabeth House and the Sydney Jewish Museum.

The majority of the hostels can be found on Victoria Street, with Darlinghurst Road being the lower end of Kings Cross.

You can easily get to Kings Cross, by train, by bus from
Circular Quay, numbers 324, 325 & 327, or a 10-minute walk along William Street from Hyde Park.
