Paddy's Markets is basically an odds and ends market housed in a historic Hay and Grain building. Anything and everything you can think of from clothing to seafood, plants to jewelery, is inside and bursting at the seams.
The origin of the name Paddy's Markets is unknown, but it has been in use for a
long time, circa 1870s, although this original Sydney market itself dates
back to 1834.
Throughout its history though, the
markets have withstood a constantly changing Sydney.
The markets are a short walk from Central Station and are located just across the road from Chinatown with both the Light Rail and Monorail stations directly outside.
Paddy’s Markets in Haymarket are opened Thursday – Sunday 9.00 AM – 5.00 PM as well as on Public Holiday Mondays from 9:00am until 5:00pm.
Entry into the markets is free and is definitely worth a look. It does tend to
get very busy, so it is best to visit early when possible.
