Sydneysiders love the outdoors, and with over 20 gorgeous beaches all within an hour of the CBD, it’s no surprise why.

From busy, bustling beaches like Bondi to secluded inner harbour beaches like Clovelly, or the quieter suburban beaches like Manly, there are plenty to choose from, each with its own distinct personality and attractions nearby.

Sydney beaches are easily accessible from the city and most of them can be reached by bus, but the ferry or train can also get you there.

The average water temperature for most of Sydney beaches is quite warm, ranging between 21ºC (70ºF) for summer months, and 16ºC (60ºF) in the autumn and spring.

During winter months however, the temperature does drop further, but this doesn’t seem to deter the city’s
passionate surfers.

Swimming areas are designated by red and yellow flags, which get moved according to surf conditions.

Sydney beaches are watched over by dedicated lifeguards for most months, with major beaches such as Bondi employing professional lifeguards all year round.

Needless to say, locals and visitors alike love Sydney's beaches.
